Winning national competition entry, commissioned by
Portsmouth City Council as part of the Gateway to Portsmouth Scheme
Inspired by the local seascape, the marine history of this area and the fascinating shapes of dismantled ships and related paraphernalia in the nearby military scrapyard.
The sculpture consists of four abstracted shapes, created in riveted and forged heavy steel plate reminiscent of ship construction. These ripple wave like away from a leading bow. Sailing By emerges from a shingle covered beach like ground.
